Green Day - Berkeley, California
Green Day is an American rock band that formed in 1986 RIGHT HERE in Berkeley, California! Their lead singer and guitarist is Billie Joe Armstrong, their bassist is Mike Dirnt, and their drummer was Tre Cool. In 1990, Tre was replaced by John Kiffmeyer. Before this band was formed, when Billie and Mike were only 14 years old, they formed their own band called Sweet Children in influence of the bank, Operation Ivy. This was another American punk rock band that formed in Berkeley, CA as well. These punk artists grew fondly by the American people and by 1994, they had sold over 10 million copies in the U.S.
Today, Green Day has sold over 85 million records worldwide and has won five Grammy Awards for some of their best songs and performances. Their album, Dookie, was one of the world’s favorite albums of all time. Some songs included in this album is “Basket Case” and “When I Come Around”.
Although in 2018, there were rumors of the band breaking up, they are still together today, singing live performances, and making new music as mentioned by Billie. When the band was said to be “breaking up”, according to fans who were raising their eyebrows with questions and concerns, Billie had a lot to say to the doubters.
He obviously cares a lot about the band and even if he continues to make music, away or with the band, they aren’t breaking up anytime soon.
Green Day fans continue to be hopeful that the band continues to stay together and continues to create meaningful, popular music! Billie can be shown in a video on Billboard, talking about Green Day and what was happening at the time with the band.
