Across The Board: The Sharks Are Hungry!
Advancing to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs is no small feat. For the San Jose Sharks, there is still meat on the bone ready for consumption. With Brent Burns and new addition Erik Karlsson leading the charge, the upcoming NHL season will provide the Sharks with plenty to feast upon.
Defenseman Brent Burns has proven his worth for the Sharks by providing top of the line defense, and at any given moment he can blaze down the ice to rip the puck directly between the goalie’s legs. We are now two years removed from Burns’ award winning season where he took home the James Norris Memorial Trophy for Top Defenseman. Last season, Burns scored 12 goals and tacked on 55 assists to boot. He will be looking to outperform his stellar results from last season and make another push for the Norris Trophy once more.
One all-star defenseman was not enough for the Sharks, so they went out and traded for Erik Karlsson, formerly of the Ottawa Senators. Karlsson is no stranger to silverware himself. He holds multiple all-star selections and is a two-time Norris Trophy winner. In fact, Karlsson and Burns have finished directly next to each other in the voting for the Norris Trophy in multiple years. Karlsson dumped in 9 goals with 53 assists in only 71 games last season. If Karlsson can be on the ice every game alongside Burns, it will create nothing but a headache for all opposition.
The Sharks will be relying heavily on the South Bay Bash Brothers to bring them back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs once more, and hopefully this time they will yield better results. The blood is in the water, and it’s feeding time for the San Jose Sharks
